Kaylie and Tyler's Legacy

Kaylie and Tyler's Legacy

Bringing Purpose to the Pain

Siblings Kaylie Hogue and Tyler Hadley are the inspiration behind KT Humble Hearts. The “K” stands for Kaylie and the “T” stands for Tyler — both were humble with huge hearts.

Kaylie passed away on June 5, 2013, at the age of 24 as the result of SUDEP, Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy. Which means she had a seizure and never came out of it. Just nine months and two days later, on March 7, 2014, Tyler, at the age of 20, along with three other boys, died tragically in a car accident.

Though their time here was far too short, their impact continues to reach far beyond what we could have imagined. In the midst of unimaginable loss, God began to write a new story — one where grief would not have the final word.

KT Humble Hearts was born from their legacy, built on kindness, generosity, faith, and the belief that even the deepest pain can be transformed into purpose. Through this foundation, we honor Kaylie and Tyler by bringing hope to the hurting and walking alongside the grieving.

The Story Behind the Slogan

You will find the slogan “Be Kind. Give More. Stay Humble.” on the apparel we offer, but it is more than a slogan—it is the way we choose to live and carry their legacy forward.

When Kaylie passed away, our family chose to honor her life by hosting Kaylie’s Memorial Run on the one-year anniversary of her passing. The event would provide scholarships to the school where she taught and support to the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota.

As we prepared for the event, we needed a slogan for the event. Tyler created the words that would forever shape our lives:

Be Kind. Give More. Stay Humble. K.M.H. are Kaylie’s initials, and Tyler said this is how we would live out her legacy — by being kind to everyone we meet, giving more to others and to God, and staying humble enough to seek help and cling to our faith.

Just three months before the event, Tyler passed away. Instead of canceling, we chose to move forward — honoring his words and renaming the event Kaylie and Tyler’s Faith Jam. Through an outpouring of love, support, and continued events, KT Humble Hearts was born.

Today, this slogan is featured on all KT Humble Hearts clothing, and we carry their legacy forward in the way we live each day—striving to Be Kind. Give More. Stay Humble.

Kaylie wanted to run her first 5K, so our entire family ran it with her. This inspired us to host our first event on Kaylie's one year anniversary.

A message sent from Heaven

On Mother’s Day in 2020, in a moment of deep sorrow, I received a message from one of Kaylie and Tyler’s friends. She shared that she had been praying and felt God place Acts 20:24 on her heart for me.

At the time, I didn’t know that verse. But when I looked it up, I began to understand something profound—the apostles did not fully step into their mission until after Jesus had ascended. In the same way, I realized I may have never stepped into this work if Kaylie and Tyler were still here.

She also mentioned that there was significance in the numbers, though she didn’t know what it meant. As I prayed, God gently revealed it to me—Tyler was 20 and Kaylie was 24 when they passed away. In that moment, 20:24 took on a deeply personal meaning.

Today, Acts 20:24 is printed on much of our clothing as a reminder that God is always with us and that we are called to carry out the work He has set before us—to testify to the good news of His grace.
